Lillian's side of the story
As a clinical psychologist, I’ve been recommending the Contain Your Brain strategy to worriers for years.
Two years ago, I did a webinar about worry for a community of business owners. Brenton was there.
A month later, Brenton saw me at a business event and told me that he loved the Contain Your Brain strategy and it was helping him manage his worries! Music to my ears.
A few months later, he even
posted about it.
How cool is that!?
A year later, I’m talking to a client about Contain Your Brain, and it struck me, this is a great strategy, but it hasn’t kept up with the times.
I mean if you’re prepared to carry around a notepad or notecards all day and pop them in a jar or a box—power to you—but I knew in this moment, most people are not.
How could I make an effective strategy for worry more relevant, more practical, and just easier to do?
That’s when it clicked, “What if it was an app?!”
Apart from using apps, I don’t know anything about apps. Was this a good idea?
Then I thought, call Brenton. Brenton is a digital design guru AND not only does he know the strategy, he uses it!
I called him and our partnership was born.
With Brenton’s design skills and my psychology know-how, we forged ahead.
One year later, here it is!
Brenton's side of the story
Two years ago I attended Lillian’s webinar on effectively dealing with worry and stress and was blown away!
Everyone worries, and some of us worry more than others. I tend to fit into that latter category!
Running a business can be stressful - in the good times and bad. Pressure to succeed, plus delivering on commitments and expectations is constant. As someone that has been in business for over 20 years, I fully appreciate the perpetual stress one can be under.
What really impressed me with the Contain Your Brain strategy is that it allows me to effectively deal better with stress. Worrying is inevitable, so dealing with it better just makes perfect sense.
The lessons I learnt in Lillian's webinar really helped. So a couple months later I did a
LinkedIn post about it to share it with others.
Then a year later, I get a call from Lillian, who says...
“Brenton, I know this is a random call, but you’re in the digital design business and you use this strategy yourself, so I think you’re the perfect person to ask — “Is Contain Your Brain a good idea for an app?”
I think it’s fairly obvious what I thought!
Creatively it has been a wonderful challenge to implement the Contain Your Brain strategy into an intuitive app. Professionally it has been amazing to work with someone as talented and inspiring as Lillian. And personally I really hope the app can help others the way the strategy has helped myself.
